As we get ready to kick off another year, the weather continues to be
unpredictable. Already in December we have received numerous inches of
rain and that was followed by a good dusting of snow. It has definitely
been a year of extremes. We have gone from record floods to record
temperatures. All of which have created challenges for the course as
well as the golfers. Let’s all make it our wish that 2012 will be a year
of great golfing conditions.
Even though this year has been a real challenge, I think the course
conditions are great. We will be doing a few projects this winter. Not
as many as in the past because the ones I have planned are very time
consuming. But I think they will allow us to continue to move in the
right direction. A vast majority of the leaves are off the trees. We
will be putting the finishing touches on mulching the leaves in the next
couple of weeks. That will allow us to focus on the projects we have in
mind. We will also have to put the greens covers out soon. For the new
members and just as a reminder, we have to cover the Bermuda greens when
the temperatures get in the mid 20s and the highs do not get out of the
low 30s. We do this to protect the roots to ensure all the greens are
healthy once spring arrives. We will be placing the covers on the back
of the greens when they are not in use. They will remain there until
warmer weather arrives next year.
I want to thank all of the members. Without you this course could not be
what it is today. I have never worked with a group of members that are
genuinely as nice and caring as you. It definitely helps motivate us to
continue to improve the course for you all. I hope that each and every
one of you has a very Happy New Year. I hope we have great golfing
weather this winter and I look forward to seeing you all out playing.
Please remember to find and repair your ball marks. This time of year it
is easy to make a ball mark and sometimes hard to find them. Please make
it a point to look for them and fix another one you see. This time of
year is “cart path only” a large amount of the time with all the rain
and winter weather because it takes much longer to dry. So please
respect the “cart on path only” signs when they are out and resist the
temptation to pass your playing partner’s cart.
