Profile Bill has been a member of at River Oaks since 2001 when he his wife Maxine (married 62 years) moved to Searcy. He is retired from Exxon Mobile where he was a real estate executive. He graduated from Little Rock High School in 1943. Bill has one daughter and one grandson who are residents of Memphis, TN. At 83 years Bill still has an outstanding golf swing and plays regularly. In 1953 Bill played his first round of golf in Memphis, TN when he was 27 with a $1.00 sleeve of PoDo golf balls he purchased at Walgreens. His best round of golf was a 62 (-9) in Nashville, TN. He has had one hole-in-one. His favorite golfer is Kenny Perry whom he admires for what he gives back to his community, especially David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. One of his favorite golfing memories was attending the Masters in the 1960's. He flew to Augusta, GA in a small plane which landed at the airport and parked next to Arnold Palmer's and Jack Nicklaus's planes. He then took a taxi to the clubhouse where he and his friends bought tickets for $5.00 (who says those were not the good old days). He has attended the Masters several times and watched many of the great golfers play. When Bill became member at River Oaks in 2001, he organized the CARO Seniors weekly golf tournament which he has helped co-ordinate to the present. Members who continue to enjoy the fun and fellowship associated with the tournament will always be grateful to Bill for all his tireless efforts on their behalf. Bill is known around the club as a gentleman who supports the game of golf as it should be played by the USGA rules. By: Tom Howard
